I admit, I think that lists are a lazy way to make a post, but lazy is appealing to me right now. Here are some things that I have been doing lately:
- Taking some new dance classes
- Signed up for Hot Rhythm Holiday
- Knitted a little on my beautiful but interminable Evenstar shawl
- Upped my drinking to prepare my liver for Dragoncon
- Started biking to and from work three times a week
I am currently freaking out that I leave for Dragoncon this weekend. I really wish it was Saturday.

The Bluray RW drive we got for the media center PC.
That Planet Replay has Bluray movies for $12 for aforementioned Bluray player.
This wireless PS2 controller by Logitech. My old corded ones were starting to act a little weird, and we just happened to see this one at Fry’s while browsing. It feels more like the 360 controllers which I find more comfortable than the old PS2 ones anyway. Plus: wireless is always better.
Scribblenauts.
The new-to-me boots I got off eBay for $40. THEY HAVE A DETACHABLE POCKET ON THE SIDE. Now I don’t have to carry a purse when I go dancing! Haven’t worn them around yet, but I suspect they will be easier on my legs than my existing boots (which always gave me blisters just below my shins because the leather was so stiff).
Dogfish Head Punk, a pumpkin beer which does not taste gross, and Terra Andina Carmenere, both of which deserve a post on the long-neglected Two Nerd Party.
The fact that there is a new Alice In Chains album.

You can indeed dye feathers. You just have to use the stove to boil ‘em in the dye. The day is saved!

Generally the Roomba is a pretty easy-going and courteous member of the household, but for some reason it really wanted the lamp on the end table dead. I don’t know if that lamp kicked his puppy or bought his old house or what. Usually if Roomba runs over a power cord it turns the brushes off until it’s disentangled and then goes on its merry way. Not so for this lamp. The Roomba would grab onto the power cord and yank the lamp right off the table. After about a week of this the part that holds the light bulb cracked. I’m currently trying to get the replacement part to fit right.

After a long blog silence I figured I’d come back with a post somewhat related to my last one.

I desperately want to do the zombie walk this year for Dismember the Alamo. I’m thinking a trip to Goodwill for some clothes, then off to the costume store for makeup and possible latex prosthetics…
Anyone else in Austin that’s going?

As much as I love Austin, I’m still not totally comfortable here. The whole attitude of the city aligns way better with me than Atlanta ever did, but there are a few things I had in Atlanta that I don’t have here. It mostly comes down to having a group of friends to do stuff with. I’ve had a hard time meeting people here (with the exception of an excellent gaming group).
I’ve had no luck whatsoever finding drinking buddies. Sure, I’ve had a couple of casual outings for happy hour. What I need is a dedicated group to go to the Gingerman for pint glass night every week. Big bonus for people who are totally down with getting together randomly during the week, getting trashed, and watching Red vs Blue (or throwing down in Mario Party).
Next big one is a knitting group. I’ve been to a couple here, and while everyone has been super nice, they kinda don’t “get” me. The conversation at one of them mostly centered around family stuff, and everyone’s eyes sort of glazed over when I started the nerd talk. I miss the tattooed, beer-drinkin’, caffeine junkie badasses I used to knit with. I hear that there’s a similar group that meets downtown, but haven’t checked it out. It’d also be nice if there was something near me instead of downtown.
Finally, I need somebody to go dancing with. The last time I got all gothed up was for DragonCon. YES, I’M A GOTH AT HEART AND I WANT TO GO STOMPY DANCE TO INDUSTRIAL MUSIC, OK? I also need an excuse to make more hairpieces. They’re fun.
Obvious bonus points for anyone who fits into ALL of the above categories. I probably need to get out more and talk to people, as I think a Craigslist ad would just bring the creepy.

Man, last week SUCKED. I got that flu thing that Dane had, and then I had a (ahem) “traffic incident”. (No people injuries, just car injuries.) This week is better. The flu thing is gone and the car’s in the shop. The rental car is tiny and brand new, and I kinda like driving it. Ouendan 2 arrived over the weekend. Bioshock is the first FPS in a long time that I enjoy. Cloverfield is out on Friday. Things are looking up, and I’m hoping that this week is a bit more indicative of how the rest of the year will go.

Why is it that flickr doesn’t have an option that would allow you to keep certain photos out of your photostream? I don’t really think that my contacts need or want to see a bunch of photos of yarn in their contacts’ “recent photos” feed.

I realize I’ve been neglecting the blog a lot lately. I don’t really have a good excuse, other than I can’t really ever think of anything good to post. I should probably get over it, since I doubt anyone is here for really thought provoking stuff. Also, I haven’t put up any pictures or anything lately because I’m sort of toying with the idea of moving to flickr. I haven’t been really fond of Gallery since I upgraded it to version 2. I realize I could try to hack it a bit, but I’ve been completely uninterested in doing so. Besides, maybe having flickr would encourage me to use the cameraphone, and I can stop carrying around my digital camera everywhere I go on the off chance I see something cool.
Dane’s parents visited this weekend, so we finally visited the capitol building. Odd, since it’s probably the biggest tourist attraction in the city and we haven’t been in the six months we’ve been living here. We also ate a lot. Austin has some damn good food, yo. I felt like my belly was going to asplode the entire weekend.
