You guys were holding out on me

This morning I came into work and was greeted by a pair of Hershey’s Kisses on my desk. These were not your standard silver wrapped Kisses, but an unfamiliar teal wrapping. They were Kisses with Macadamia nuts, and they are delicious! Turns out that a coworker picked up a bag of these lovelies while visiting Hawaii. While wandering around the internet looking for these I also discovered limited edition cherry, coconut creme, truffle, and hot cocoa Kisses, which all look amazing. I’m going to see if I can procure some of these, preferably in something smaller than a 6lb case.

Lord of the Rings feast

About a month or so ago Dane and I saw that the Drafthouse had a listing for a Lord of the Rings feast. All three movies (the first two as the extended editions) shown back to back with a seven-course meal served at all of the Hobbit mealtimes. It sounded like it would be really intense but also really fun. The tickets were a bit expensive, but when we considered the amount of food and time involved we thought it was something worth doing at least once in our lives.

It was amazing! Both of us really enjoyed ourselves. Each meal was just the right amount of food so we didn’t feel stuffed, and it was great seeing the movies again. I thought that doing it once would be enough, but I would definitely consider doing it again in the future.

My only complaint is that they showed the theatrical version of Return of the King. Their explanation was that the extended version was never done in 35mm, and they didn’t want to show a DVD after showing the 35mm versions of the previous movies. I sort of understand that, but I was pretty disappointed that I didn’t get the see the Mouth of Sauron on the big screen.

Here’s a short breakdown of the food:

a public service announcement

STARBUCKS MAKES FRAPPUCINOS WITH SOY MILK NOW. This is like nectar for me, who is somewhat lactose-challenged yet loves fraps (which are particularly hard on my tummy). Unfortunately I can’t verify their goodness yet: I didn’t see the sign advertising the change until I was walking out the door. I still think it’s an excellent development in freezy drinks.

deliciousness overload

Dane’s birthday was Tuesday. I wanted to do something nice for him, so I thought “Hey, I’ll get him cookies!” But then I got sort of excited and, er, went a bit overboard.

I ordered four dozen cookies. For the two of us.

I have a tummy ache today and we still have at least three dozen left.

Two Nerd Party

Introducing Two Nerd Party, a review blog that Dane and I collaborate on! We’ll be reviewing food, recipes, and all manner of drinks.

a weekend of firsts

This weekend can be easily summarized by starting any sentence with the phrase “so I finally…”

Saturday was my first trip to IKEA. Oh, the interior decorating joy. Sunday afternoon was my first time at The Flying Biscuit. All of the food was very good, but the best was the nummy cranberry-apple butter for the biscuits. To top it off Dane and I finally watched the Battlestar Galactica miniseries pilot thingie, which I actually liked a lot. Now I must watch the rest of the series.

oats on my keyboard

Dear Nutrigrain Bar manufacturers,

I sure do like Nutrigrain bars. They make a great second breakfast at work, and I can keep them in my drawer indefinitely. My one complaint is the oats you guys put on top of the bars. I guess this is to make them look pretty or something. All it does for me is get oats on my keyboard. Seriously, you would have a perfect no-mess food if you took those stupid oats off the top. Please, think about the keyboards.

Love,
Susi

dead blender

So, my blender died while making hummus last week. I could smell the ozone from the motor working too hard, and once I shut it off it wouldn’t start back up again. It must have been a crappy blender if it couldn’t even handle some beans. Needless to say I’m a bit pissed, since I can’t seem to find any replacement parts for the thing. I guess I’ll just have to buy a whole new blender at some point.

wine at Northern Star

Northern Star finally got their wine license! Dane and I saw North by Northwest there on Saturday and I tried one of their reds.

I imagine this post will go largely unnoticed, as the only other person who cares is currently in Japan.
