it’s official

We’re moving to Austin in January! Depending on when you ask me, I’m either thrilled or terrified. This will be the first time I’ve ever lived anywhere other than the Atlanta area.

  1. Congratulations! I know you and Dane are excited. Having moved to different areas a lot over the past several years, the first instinct is to miss the things you were used to, but pretty soon you adapt and you start to enjoy where you are but also like to visit the old place.

    One thing that always gets to me living somewhere is trying to explain the various misunderstood stereotypes associated with the place you live. Be prepared to explain “Don’t Mess With Texas” to a lot of people. :)

  2. Also, get used to beef brisket instead of pork BBQ. I do not care for that aspect of TX.

  3. Oh. My. GOD.

    There are no Sonny’s in Texas. This is a travesty. I will miss my pork BBQ. ;_;

  4. Don’t worry, there are many many other bbq places in texas that far outrank sonnys in their delici-tude. Pork is not obsolete! Also, while in austin, keep your eyes open for a freaking awesome tex-mex place called Chueys.

  5. The last time I was in Texas for any length of time, I found it to have a significantly better selection of restaurants than Atlanta. My favorite two (though I cannot remember their names) are the tex-mex place where the plate was the size of my torso (filled with so much food i could not finish the portion i ordered) and the BBQ place with all you can eat beef brisket (there were other sorts of meat, but the brisket was amazing).

    Also, I’ll send out the next beer night announcement and add a link to this entry.
